Results of member consultation and ‘rules of the game’ possible actions

A few weeks ago, all 5 ground unions reached an agreement in principle with KLM on mobility agreements Back on Track (BoT). In a previous newsletter we informed you about this and asked you to give your opinion. In this newsletter, we would like to share the results of this consultation with you. We also pay attention to the actions that will (possibly) take place at KLM in the coming period.

Voting results

More than 81% of the members who voted agreed. 5% voted against and 14% abstained from voting.

The conclusion is that a very large majority of the members of De Unie have agreed to the agreement in principle. In the meantime, the members of the VKP and the NVLT have also agreed.

At the express request of colleagues from FNV and CNV, the BoT mobility agreements have not been part of the collective labor agreement negotiations. And although there is an earlier agreement in principle with all the ground unions, they have decided to stop the consultation.

What the consequences of this will be is not clear at the moment. It is clear to us that a collective labor agreement conflict should not be conducted on the backs of the employees who have to deal with the consequences of Back on Track. They have been waiting too long for clarity and deserve it!

Rules of the game for promotions

Fellow unions FNV and CNV have announced strikes at KLM. The Union does not support these strikes, but of course respects them. Together with NVLT and VKP, we have previously achieved a result and called on the colleague unions to resume consultations with KLM on this matter. This call still stands!

Now striking is an individual right. So if the actions continue, Union members who would like to participate in actions also have that right. You do not have to register with us, but you do have to report in advance to the management that you are participating.

For those who do not participate, there are a few rules. The basis is that you simply continue to carry out your own work and do not take over work from striking colleagues (so-called contaminated work). In addition, it is important that you also respect the right of colleagues to strike. Do not discuss this with each other and refrain from commenting. Don’t forget that after the strikes, all colleagues are back together every day for the KLM operation!

Finally, the following

In recent days we have received several reports from De Unie (executive) members who feel intimidated or even unsafe, by the way they have been approached by some colleagues. Of course, this is about the result achieved in the collective labor agreement negotiations and the position of De Unie. I am genuinely shocked by that. This is of course unacceptable and, as KLM itself has indicated, unworthy of KLM!

That’s not how colleagues treat each other. We have addressed both the fellow unions and KLM’s management about this directly. We therefore assume that this will not happen again. And if this is the case, please report this to us.

So much for this message.
Of course we will keep you informed of all further developments.
