Purchasing power, IPB and finishing what we once started!

Next Monday, November 25, the collective labor agreement negotiations for a new Land Collective Labor Agreement at KLM will start. In the run-up to these negotiations, we were informed by KLM about the situation in which the company finds itself, and our members had the opportunity to express their opinion by means of a survey.

Situation KLM

The situation in which KLM currently finds itself is complex. There is uncertainty about Schiphol’s position (number of flight movements). Due to higher costs (including Schiphol’s airport dues), the lack of sufficient pilots and the availability of the fleet, the company’s results are under pressure. The situation in the world, public opinion, the government and international competition play an important role in this. This while the company – in order to survive – has to invest more than ever.

Survey

More than 450 members have taken the trouble to complete the aforementioned survey about what they consider important in our commitment to the upcoming collective labor agreement negotiations. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part in the survey. This gave us a representative and clear picture of the opinion and wishes of our members. Pension, income, IPB and workload are the most important themes. Read the full results of the survey here and the summary here .

Proposal letter De Unie

You can read our proposal letter here . With these proposals, we want to do justice to the opinion of our members. As far as we are concerned, the emphasis will be on PURCHASING POWER, IPB and ‘finishing what we once started’. The members have been clear about the possible impact of Back on Track on the collective labor agreement. There are concerns, but the reporting on Back on Track should not affect our commitment to the collective labor agreement table. And that is a clear message!

If you have any questions, comments or additions to the proposal letter, please let us know.

KLM proposals

Last Wednesday, KLM sent us its own proposals for the collective labor agreement. And although we understand the situation in which KLM finds itself, we are still a bit surprised. After having concluded a nice collective labor agreement last time, KLM now seems to be putting the brakes on. Even before the full impact of Back on Track is clear (this also takes a long time), if it is up to KLM, there will first be a major intervention in the development of your terms of employment. And we don’t understand that. In addition, the hard-working ground staff cannot do anything about the fact that KLM is unable to use the full capacity of the (ICA) network due to a shortage of pilots. This also has a significant negative effect on KLM’s result.

The sequel

In the coming weeks, six negotiation days for the Land collective labor agreement are planned. Of course, we do not yet know how these will go. What we do know is that there is ‘something’ to discuss. At the end of January, two negotiation days are planned to reach a final agreement on the common topics, such as wages, in a so-called multi-context (all unions from all domains). And that will be quite a job…

As always, we will keep you informed of further developments at the collective labor agreement table.

Sincerely,

Huug Brinkers
