KLM stops labor market allowance for MSG employees

KLM has decided to end the labour market allowance for specific employee groups, including the IT sector. This decision will take effect in June. Trade unions were recently informed about this.

The labour market allowance was introduced by KLM itself and is a temporary measure (would be in force for a maximum of 3 years). From De Unie we have concerns about stopping the surcharge for MSG only. After all, the labour market allowance was created to tackle the shortage of personnel. Although KLM indicates that – after the realization of the wage increase from the new collective labor agreement – the MSG wage structure is in line with the market and will therefore be able to continue to fill vacancies, De Unie doubts whether this will actually be the case.

The Union is therefore concerned about this decision. We find it remarkable that the labour market allowance for all MSG positions will disappear as of 1 June (without exception). In our opinion, the shortage in the labor market is still present. Also because of the outflow (including retirement), KLM will have to make a major effort to keep the formation in order. With the sudden and complete discontinuation of the labor market allowance for MSG only, KLM is taking a considerable risk in that respect. A risk that can have an effect on the operation, workload and motivation.

In response to the decision, trade unions have asked KLM for more text and explanation.
