KLM: Results of the consultation on pensions and vision on the future of aviation

In recent weeks, you have been able to vote on the new pension scheme. A scheme that will be adapted to the new Future Pensions Act (WTP). In this newsletter we want to share the results of the vote with you. We would also like to inform you about the initiative of a large number of organisations – including knowledge institutions, airlines, a number of trade unions and the manufacturing industry – that have drawn up the 10 so-called commitments. With this we want to support the importance of a healthy and future-proof sector.

The new pension scheme

The votes have been counted and the results are known. About 82% of those who voted agreed to the Transition Plan for the new pension scheme. And although the response was not very large, this is still a clear result.

It is now also known that members of the other unions have agreed. This is an important step. The pension fund has now been informed and will consider accepting the assignment. After that, the pension fund will draw up an implementation plan, which will later be tested by the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). In short, there are still a lot of steps to be taken before the new pension scheme is actually introduced (now scheduled for 1 January 2026).

De Unie supports Future-proof Aviation Netherlands

The aviation sector in the Netherlands is often criticized. And not all criticism is always justified. That is why some 30 stakeholders within the Dutch aviation industry – including De Unie – have recently committed themselves to an aviation sector that is ready for the future. This initiative took place in The Hague, where the parties entered into discussions with members of the House of Representatives and policymakers about a cleaner, quieter and more resilient aviation sector.

Previously, De Unie supported the joint vision of future-proof aviation and endorsed the 10 commitments to the Netherlands contained therein. The emphasis is not only on finding solutions that respect the interests of both society and the aviation sector, but also on good working conditions that are of course important for the well-being of employees.

We think it is important to participate in these kinds of initiatives. After all, your well-being and employment are closely linked to the future of the sector. With this we want to show that good trade union work is more than just concluding a collective labor agreement.
